So i was going to begin my own livejournal experience with the story of nycc 08. But lets face it. Four days of new york city, radical and awesome distractions, and cool friends. Its a lot to cover. So instead, here it this happy adventure story.
Turning your daily surroundings into some kind of fantastic new adventure with make believe is something i hold with high regard. Josh and i make up nonsense realities on a pretty consistent basis.
So wednesday morning about 6am and we are on our way to work. Josh told me it was going to be a good adventure day. I think he was still excited from seeing the tuesday night critic release sneak preview of ironman! But he was right adventures abounded as i went through the day. But here is my favorite.
Wednesday afternoon and i am on my way home from work. The train was stuck at central for a while due to 'police activity'. So i missed my regular bus. Which was cool. I was looking for adventure! So i decided to run from the train to the next bus which was just about to leave. I missed it. Deeper into this adventure went i. Ah-ha! The bus was stopped at a red light! I ran! And the gracious driver let me on. So here i was on a bus im not 'supposed to' be on and what is the piece of technology hidden in the crack of the bus seat? Someone elses cell phone. So i pick it up to give to the bus driver. But i realize...the owner will never get it back if i do that.
So i took it. I called the contact: mom. I thought moms would usually know what to do. I left a message for mom. I decided to try one other call. I called the last call the owner had called. M said she was the owners sister. It was her brothers phone! Awesome! So after a few more minutes of contacting people, i was able to speak to the owner and we were able to make a plan to meet up at a station that just so happened to be only one stop away from where i was going anyhow!
We planned to meet the next morning because it would already be part of our commutes. I didnt want to be late because he had a bus leaving at 745. But it took forever for my cab to arrive.
So now i am fighting the grips of time thru to the end of this adventure! The cab gets here and it is the lady that goes the slowest and longest route. Even when i ask her to go a different way, she ignores that request. But not today. A guy was waiting for a phone and a bus and i wasnt gonna let this fall apart now!
"if i give you a 20, can you give me a ten, and then i can use these ones for the tip? I need to go up highland and im in a rush."
$$$ cha ching! Message recvd. Theres a little incentive.
I was there in five minutes. See? A little positive reinforcement goes a long way.
So this morning at 730 i met the owner and gave him his phone back and he was pretty happy.
Now im on my way to work so there could be many more adventures ahead! Josh was right- it was a good adventure day.
